Wakeman Boys & Girls Club Annual Weeklong College Tour

The annual weeklong college tour takes place in August, sponsored by Mark Kelly of Easton, CT and Safety Marking Inc. Ten teens accompanied by two staff members spend the week visiting schools in the mid-Atlantic and southern states. The goal is to expose teens to schools in a different part of the country and allow them to see different types of schools – large state universities, small private colleges as well as schools in both urban and rural settings. For many of the teens, the college tour is their only opportunity to visit colleges and universities outside of the Northeast. This year, they visited nine schools in Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland and New York. A different “loop” is conducted every year and in the past groups have traveled as far south as Georgia and Alabama.
